Ladies Bay Beach is a secluded beach located at the far eastern end of Auckland’s eastern bays, perfect for a nudist beach. It sits below high cream to gold-coloured cliffs at Achilles Point and is protected by large overhanging pōhutukawa trees. Despite its name, the beach is open to all who enjoy nude bathing. Gentlemens Bay is a lesser-known beach around the rocky point of Ladies Bay. Also known for nudists, it is less attractive than Ladies Bay.
You don’t have to go nude to go, and there is plenty of room on the beach. A rocky platform at the northeast end of the beach is perfect for fishing.
To reach the beach, there are steps down the cliff and amongst the trees from Cliff Road, just before you get to the Achilles Point viewing platform. Make sure you add a visit to the platform, which offers fantastic views of the Waitematā Harbour, Downtown, Hauraki Gulf, Brown's Island / Motokorea, Rangitoto Island, and a distant glimpse of Auckland City.
You can drive to the beach and park in the small parking area at the point or walk 10 minutes up Cliff Road from the end of Tamaki Drive in Saint Heliers.
