Discover Waiake Beach on Auckland's North Shore
Waiake Beach is on the Hauraki Gulf, located in the suburb of Torbay on the North Shore of Auckland. This concave beach is separated from the main road by a reserve, offering a peaceful retreat with striking views of mature pōhutukawa trees along a short cliff section. A notable feature is Deep Creek, which enters the beach at the northern end and can be crossed even at high tide.
A Sheltered Haven with Unique Features
The beach is known for its calm waters, making it a safe place for swimming. One of its unique attractions is The Tor, a small and charming island located at the northern end of the beach. During low tide, you can easily walk to the island and explore the surrounding rock pools. The beach tends to be popular during fine weekends and public holidays, drawing both locals and tourists.
Exploring the North Shore Coastal Walk
For those interested in exploring further, Waiake Beach is accessible via the North Shore Coastal Walk, part of Te Araroa. At low tide, you can walk around the coast from Long Bay and the Long Bay Regional Park, via Winstone Cove to the north, or from Browns Bay via Tipau Point to the south. This coastal walk offers stunning views and a chance to experience the stunning cliffs and beaches of the area.
