Takapuna Beach is a popular city beach next to the North Shore, Auckland suburb of Takapuna. It lies opposite Rangitoto Island and is one of the most sheltered city beaches. Swimming is safe, with no surf to speak of. Houses mostly front the beach, but a large grassed park is towards the northern end. Several large pohutukawa trees also fringe the northern edge of the beach.
The north end of the beach is marked by a large boat ramp and parking area, with a popular nearby cafe. More interesting is Fossil Point, just below the adjacent campground and the access onto the north-going section of the North Shore Coastal Walk / Te Araroa.
If you have enough time, you can also walk south around the coast at low tide to St Leonards Beach, Narrow Neck, then Maungauika North Head and Devonport.
There are multiple access points to the beach along the suburban side streets off Lake Road in Takapuna.
