Takapuna Beach

North Auckland

Takapuna Beach is quite a long popular city beach next to the North Shore suburb of Takapuna. It lies opposite Rangitoto island and is one of the most sheltered city beaches. Swimming is safe with no surf to speak of. The beach is mostly fronted by houses, but there is a large grassed park towards the northern end. The northern edge of the beach is also fringed by several large pohutukawa trees.

The north end of the beach is marked by a large boat ramp and parking area, with a very popular nearby cafe. More interesting is Fossil Point just below the adjacent campground and access onto the north going section of the North Shore Coastal Walk, also part of Te Araroa.

You can also walk south around the coast towards North Head, then Devonport on the North Shore Coastal Walk/Te Araroa.
