The Ōrakei Marina is between Hobson Bay and Okahu Bay on Tamaki Drive in Auckland. The marina was built in the mid-2000s, having been proposed for several decades before this.
As you approach the marina from Hobson Bay, below the cliffs of Hobson Point, the path and road are surrounded by pōhuitukawa trees, spectacular when they flower in December. The entrance to the marina is on the left, and you can walk along the sea barrier that protects the marina berths. Viewing the boats is a nice adjunct to walking past the Outdoor Boating Club marina in Hobson Bay.
Views across the Watematā Harbour from the barrier to Devonport and Downtown are superb. At the very end of the sea barrier is a lighthouse, which adds to the photogenic view.
