Discover Waitangi Falls

Waitangi Falls is a well-loved waterfall located south of the Glenbrook Steel Mill, west of Pukekohe in Auckland. Situated at the edge of the expansive Waiuku River mouth, which flows into the southern end of the Manukau Harbour, it is one of several waterfalls in the southern Auckland region. The falls are a great spot for families, with a pool at the base that is perfect for a refreshing soak or for children to jump into from the waterfall's edge.

Enjoying the Waterfall

The pool at the bottom of Waitangi Falls is spacious and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a swim. Children often enjoy climbing up the side of the falls and leaping into the water below. Despite a warning sign, the thrill of jumping into the waterfall remains a popular activity. The area around the falls is surrounded by farmland, but a significant portion has been planted with native flowering plants, creating a picturesque setting, particularly in spring and early summer.

Visiting Tips

To make the most of your visit, try to avoid weekends and holidays when the falls can become crowded. The grassy area above the falls provides a nice spot for picnics, and there is a short path leading to the bottom of the falls, offering additional picnic options.

How to Get There

To reach Waitangi Falls from Downtown Auckland, take the southern motorway to the Drury off-ramp. From there, head southwest on Karaka Road, then continue on Glenbrook Road until you reach Waitangi Falls Road on the right. Park near the end of the road. The trip is around 60 km and will take 70 minutes, outside rush hour.

Other nearby waterfalls can be found in Henry's Scenic Reserve, the Secret Waterfall Garden Cafe (Mauku Falls) and Vivian Falls.
