Sunkist Bay

Sunkist Bay is a small bay and beach on the northwest side of Beachlands on the Pōhutukawa Coast. The primary access is from Ealing Cresent, with parking in Sunkist Bay Reserve above or beside the beach. In the reserve is the Log Cabin, a historic holiday home built in 1929 by the Grove family and now used to support community groups. As you head down the crescent to the beach, you will see the Beachlands Wharf, a popular spot for fishing.

The sandy beach is 300 metres long and only exposed as the tide goes out. Behind the beach is a high stone and concrete barrier, topped by a walkway with several seats. Pōhutukawa trees line much of the steep hill about the walkway. Several steps provide access to the beach in front of the walkway. At the Ealing Cresent end, a concrete boat ramp provides access to the beach.

Generally, the beach is a good spot to swim as the tide goes out. However, at the time of writing, there was a Swimsafe warning to avoid swimming due to a toxic algae bloom. So, check Swimsafe before taking a dip.
