Discover the Scenic Cluden Hill Viewpoint
Cluden Hill, located north of Tarras on State Highway 8, is easy to overlook. However, there is a sign at the top of the rise, a parking space, and a captivating view.
Panoramic Views of the Lindis River Valley
From the Cluden Hill viewpoint, you can observe a steep 100-metre descent into the Lindis River valley. This valley is nestled below McPhies Ridge and is divided from the northern end of the Dunstan Mountains by Cluden Creek. Beyond McPhies Ridge, the peaks of the St Bathans Range are visible. Looking north along the highway, the view extends into the Lindis Valley, framed by Lindis Peak.
Exploring Trails and Outdoor Activities
If you have some extra time, consider exploring Cluden Creek Road, located towards the bottom of the hill. This area provides access to various DOC trails suitable for four-wheel driving, mountain biking, horse riding, and hiking. These trails offer a range of outdoor activities for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural surroundings.
