Exploring Vaughan Stream and Homestead
Located at the northern end of Long Bay Beach, Vaughan Stream offers a picturesque setting ideal for photography and picnics. The area is adorned with mature pōhutukawa trees, providing ample shade and enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Vaughan Homestead: A Historical Gem
Perched on the north slope of Vaughan Stream, just behind the beach, is the Vaughan Homestead. This historic house was built by the family who originally developed the Long Bay farm, which later became Long Bay Regional Park. The homestead has been carefully restored and is now maintained by the Torbay Historical Society, adding a layer of historical interest to the area.
How to Get There
The stream is at the beach's northern end. Once there, you can easily find the homestead on the north slope of the stream, just behind the beach.
While visiting, you can also explore the wider Long Bay Regional Park, which offers additional recreational opportunities. This includes a walk along the beach and cliffs to the north, part of the North Shore Coastal Walk and Te Araroa.
