Rimu Track

Central Waikato

The Rimu Track starts at the Kakaho Campsite on the northeast side of Pureora Forest Park, where Kakaho Road meets Link Road. The track is a loop that crosses the Kakaho Stream and then follows the bank for 400 metres through dense podocarp forest dominated by ancient rimu trees. It crosses the stream for a second time, then climbs 60 metres to a viewpoint at the top of a hill, surrounded by big trees. From there, it is a short walk to the road, then back along Kakaho Rd to the campsite.

As with all these forest walks, the forest is spectacular, mingling numerous tall ancient trees with the rainforest effects of moss, lichen, ferns and epiphytes.
