Waiotemarama Waterfall drops 20 meters through an unspoiled rainforest on the edge of the Waimā Forest. At only 550 metres, it is a quick walk above the Waiotemarama Stream gorge to the waterfall. The trees are mainly tawa and taraire, rich in lichen, mosses and ferns. At the waterfall, you can clamber over a series of boulders to the pool at the base of the falls or head down the stream into the beautiful gorge.
You can also continue from the waterfall on the Hauturu Highpoint Track, which begins where the track crosses an unbridged stream. The track can be rough in some places and very slippery in wet weather, and it takes about 4 hours each way.
The track access is about 4 km along Waiotemarama Gorge Road from State Highway 12, northwest of Waipoua Forest on the Kauri Coast, before the turnoff to Waimamaku Beach (also Kaikai Beach).
