The Waiau Kauri Grove is located 1 km further along the 309 Road east of Waiau Falls. The grove is a beautiful stand of ancient kauri trees rising above the surrounding forest. The trees somehow escaped the axe when most of the ancient forest on the Coromandel Peninsula was logged in the 1800s and early 1900s. The track is well-formed with footbridges and boardwalks so you can get right up to the trees.
Drive 4 km south from Coromandel Town on State Highway 25 and onto The 309 Road. Park at the parking area for the Waiau Falls trail on the left. Walk along the road for 1 km to access the track to the Waiau Kauri Grove. Note that there is currently no parking at the track access.
The Waterworks is a short distance along The 309 Road to the west of the falls.
