The Vaughan Stream is at the north end of Long Bay Beach, and the Vaughan Homestead is on the north slope of the stream, just behind the beach. The family that developed the Long Bay farm built the house, which eventually became Long Bay Regional Park. The homestead has been restored and is maintained by the Torbay Historical Society, and provides an extra point of interest.
The area around the stream is pretty and photogenic, with several mature pohutukawa trees providing shade for a picnic.
