Tairua Ocean Beach is another beautiful Coromandel east coast surf beach, albeit largely fronted by houses in Tairua. Paku, with its twin ancient volcanic peaks, is at the south end of the beach.
There are a couple of access points, the most obvious at the north end of the beach off Ocean Beach Rd. There is also some freedom camping by the beach. Ocean Beach Road can be accessed from State Highway 25 from either the south or north side of Tairua.
If it’s a bit crowded, you can walk around the northern rocky point, which has some modest sandy areas away from the main beach.
