Sunrises on the Coromandel east coast beaches are particularly promising. For this Pauanui dawn walk, head down to the large ancient volcanic rock platform at the point of the south end of the beach. As the tide goes out, there are many large rock pools to capture reflected light. The formation itself is interesting, and oddly, the small bay below the point is made up of smooth, rounded stones and pebbles.
