Opito Bay in the Coromandel is a modest and remote holiday community (no shops) with a beautiful beach. At 6 km long, there is plenty of space to spread out, even during peak holiday periods. Swimming is relatively safe, with generally modest surf. At the southeast end of the beach, there is a short walkway to Opito Point.
To get to Opito Bay, turn off State Highway 25 onto Black Jack Road at Kuaotunu. Drive over Black Jack, past Otama Beach, and follow the metal section to the end.
