Cornwallis Beach

West Auckland

Cornwallis Beach

Cornwallis Beach is on the eastern side of the Karangahape Peninsula, Waitākere Ranges, Auckland. It is the best-known beach accessed from Huia Road. Take the signposted turnoff and a second short road to the main parking area.

It is popular in summer and has plenty of parking. Behind the beach is a substantial grassy area framed by native regrowth and older pine trees, with a couple of bush walks. The walk along the beach to the Cornwallis Wharf is also interesting as the tide goes out, with colourful cliffs, a mix of back and orange sand, and rock pools.

Other nearby options include Mill Bay and Kaitarakihi Bay, and the walks to Puponga Point and Kakamatua Inlet.
