Acland Falls Track

South Canterbury

The Acland Falls Track in Peel Forest, South Canterbury, was named for the early settler John Acland. It starts at Te Wanahu Flat at its northwest corner. Heading north, the track is a steep 120-metre climb through a regrowth forest, then a gentler 60-metre drop to a stream. The 14-metre but relatively gentle waterfall is a short walk up the stream bed.

The walk can be done as a loop by heading southeast from the falls to Cain Flat. You can then walk back down the road or connect with the Kahikatea Walk. Acland Falls is about 1 km from Te Wanahu Flat on Ragitata Gorge Road and 600 metres from Cain Flat. The loop takes about 30 minutes to complete.
