About 2.5 km along Link Road in Pureora Forest Park, from Barryville Road, you will see a “Historic Crawler Tractor” sign. This is a short walk through a stunning ancient podocarp rainforest to a well-preserved 1920s-era Caterpillar tractor and trailer. The tractor was used to pull split tōtara posts and battens from the forest. When it broke down, it was left where it stood for the forest to claim, albeit a purpose-built shelter had protected it. It is another example of DOC maintaining the park's forestry history. You can continue on the track to link with the Timber Trail.
