Glendhu Bay on Lake Wānaka is accessed from Mt Aspiring Road, a few minutes northwest of the Roys Peak Track car park. It is best known for its large campground. However, several excellent viewpoints surround the bay. The best time to stop is on a calm day for outstanding reflections.
As you approach the Bay from Wānaka, you will see a signposted reserve before the campground. This is also one end of the Glendhu Bay Track, a shared hiking and cycling trail, and the only place in the region with a view of Mt Aspiring (pointed out by a signpost). The Harris Mountains and the Buchanan Peaks are the main features, but you can pick out Mt Aspiring between them. You can easily wander along the lake's edge to get different angles and perspectives or use the Glendhu Bay Track. The track is in the native shrubbery with some open spaces for the views. For another perspective, you can also walk around the track on the bay's edge towards the campground.
Another fantastic reflection option is from Glendhu Bluff, a short distance northwest along the road.
