Exploring Glendhu Bluff's Scenic Views

Glendhu Bluff is located just northwest of Glendhu Bay, Lake Wānaka, along Mount Aspiring Road. This spot provides stunning views over the bay, making it a worthwhile stop for those exploring the area. When the lake is still, it becomes highly reflective in this bay, and the bluff is a unique vantage point to witness the intriguing "alien head and body" reflection in the water, with Roys Peak forming the shoulders.

Parking and Access

Glendhu Bluff is a cliff northwest of Glendhu Bay. As you approach the south side of Glendhu Bluff, you'll encounter two tight turns around the bluff's side, high above the lake, with spectacular views. After these turns, there's a short straight section with scrubby trees on the right. About 100 metres further along from the second curve, there's an informal parking area. There are two other options with enough room on the side of the road nearby.

Safety Considerations

All parking spots are on the lake side of the road, so exercise caution when stopping. If you are driving away from Glendhu Bay and towards West Wānaka, continue a short distance to West Wanaka Road to safely turn around and return to the parking spots.

How to Get There

To reach Glendhu Bluff from Wānaka, follow Mt Aspiring Road past Glendhu Bay. Once parked, a very short track through the scrub leads to the best viewpoint over the bay.

Other nearby places to explore include the Glendhu Bay Track, Diamond Lake and Rocky Mountain, and the Motatapu River Track.
