The Wellington downtown harbour walk is undoubtedly the best urban harbour walk in New Zealand. We recommend starting where Waterloo Quay becomes Customhouse Quay. Then, stay on the walkway and walk to the Wellington Museum, the Portrait Gallery, Te Papa Museum and the Marina. From there, continue around Oriental Bay, walk to Cuba Street (and its many eateries), or head up Mt Victoria.
The walkway is lovely on a fine day, and there are various outdoor activities, cafes, places to hang out, and interesting sculptures and other artwork.
