Te Awarua O Porirua, also known as Porirua Harbour, is a scenic body of water situated between Porirua and Plimmerton. This harbour is an ideal spot for those interested in cycling or walking, with a shared track encircling much of the area. The tranquil waters and surrounding landscapes can make it an interesting and captivating destination.

Walking and Cycling Tracks

Begin your exploration at the car park located south of the Mana bridge on State Highway 58, which connects the two arms of the harbour. From here, you can enjoy stunning reflections on the water when conditions are calm, especially around Ivey Bay, east of the bridge.

For a leisurely walk or cycle, follow the edge of Pāuatahanui, the western arm of the harbour. Alternatively, you can venture under the road and rail bridge to explore the eastern arm. This path leads to the marina and continues along Ara Harakeke, a coastal track that extends to Goat Point and Plimmerton, directly opposite the harbour entrance.

Driving and Additional Tracks

If you prefer to drive, head south and navigate around the west arm of the harbour via Titahi Bay Road. At the road's end, another track awaits, guiding you along the southern side of the harbour entrance. This route provides additional perspectives of the harbour's natural beauty.

Getting There

To reach Te Awarua O Porirua / Porirua Harbour from Wellington, take the motorway north to the Porirua / State Highway 59 off-ramp. Follow the highway to Mana Bridge, which is a convenient starting point for your adventure.

Te Awarua o Porirua is en route to the Kapiti Coast. Follow the highway north to the beach towns of Paekākāriki, Raumati, Paraparaumu and Waikanae.
