Discovering Rainbow Reach

Rainbow Reach is located on the edge of Fiordland National Park and serves as a gateway to several outdoor adventures. It offers a major car park and easy access to the Waiau River, the Lake2Lake Track, and the renowned Kepler Track, one of New Zealand’s Great Walks. A highlight of this area is the long, stable swing bridge over the Waiau River, which connects directly to the Kepler Track from the north end of the car park.

Exploring the Kepler Track from Rainbow Reach

The section of the Kepler Track accessible from Rainbow Reach is known for its relatively flat and easy terrain, making it ideal for walkers of various skill levels. The trail meanders through mature beech forest, offering a serene and picturesque environment.

From the swing bridge, you can choose to walk in either direction. Heading left will take you towards the Balloon Loop and then to Shallow Bay on Lake Manapouri. Alternatively, turning right leads you towards the track's end at Lake Te Anau. Both directions provide a beautiful forest walk with regular views of the river, offering a wonderful introduction to one of New Zealand’s premier walking tracks.
