Plimmerton is a smaller seaside town north of Wellington and Porirua before you head over the hills to Pukerua Bay and the Kāpiti Coast. Take Steyne Avenue from Highway 59 to access the rugged coastline. Drive past the rail station, through the pretty village and turn left for the beach and rock pools. You can continue around the coast as far as Hongoeka, with a couple more beach options.
This is a good spot to wander along the coast and get early evening photos looking to the west.
