From the Dawson Falls visitor centre on the side of Mount Taranaki, take the track signposted for Wilkie Pools. This well-surfaced, easy walk takes you along the Kapuni Stream to the pools. The pools are an exceedingly pretty series of small falls and pools that tumble down the side of the mountain. Try to avoid doing it when particularly busy! The combination of easy walking, beautiful rainforest and the pools attracts a lot of walkers and families.
The day we did it, it was shrouded in mist, which made for particularly eerie photos and fewer walkers.
On your return to the visitor centre, take the fork for the Ridge Loop Track from the pools to experience some goblin forest. Goblin forest is a highlight of any visit to Egmont National Park.
