Wharariki Beach Sand Dunes

Wharariki Beach is best known for the Archway Islands, but it also has substantial sand dunes. At the north end of the beach, the 30-minute access track crosses through a beautiful section of wind-swept sand dunes, which are partly covered by native shrubs and dune grasses.

Immediately to the right of the track is the Wharariki Stream, which crosses the east end of the beach. When the wind blows, it creates some amazing patterns in the sand, reminiscent of snow drifts.
