The Langford Store and Post Office on Aorere Valley Road, Golden Bay, is quite a treasure. It is packed full of curiosities, local artwork and crafts, and antiques. You can also get a coffee and snack, and it is still an official post office.
To add to the sense of history, it has been in the same family for many decades. The upside of the bad weather was plenty of time to chat with the proprietor, as we were the only ones crazy enough to be there. She suggested we visit Salisbury Falls, which is just a short walk from the road and more spectacular in the rain.
