Lake Hanlon is about a 30-minute return walk from the Karamea Highway, 20 minutes south of Karamea by car. The walk climbs over a forested ridge and then drops to the lake.
It is a nice walk, and the lake is pretty, surrounded by native forest and sheltered. There is a good chance of some reflections and a small pier you can hang around on or jump off if you are so inclined.
