Heading south from Moana along Lake Brunner Road to the intersection with State Highway 73, it’s classic green New Zealand. That means farms on the flats and native forests up the mountainsides.
At Inchbonnie, the road takes a sharp turn east along the Taramakau River. It then crosses the river at Jacksons (nothing there apart from the views!).. Then, it continues to head east towards Otira and Arthurs Pass.
This section of the highway has several fabulous viewpoints looking up and down the river.
