Jack’s Blowhole is at the end of a moderate walkway on the southern side of the Catlins River mouth. It is a pretty walk through farmland with views of seaside cliffs and the Pacific. The blowhole is a collapsed sea cave that the tide washes 200 meters back from the shore. Try to be there approaching high tide.
After the walk, from the Catlins River Mouth, take the southern route past Catlins Lake towards Papatowai and Tautuku Bay, rather than the main road to the north of the lake. Look out for the Lost Gypsy caravan from November to April; a truly unique and local experience (plus coffee).
