The main attractions at Cape Palliser are the seal colony and the lighthouse at the end of the road. You can walk up the steep stairs to the lighthouse, with a magnificent view across the region.
As you drive past, plenty of seals are happy to be only a meter from the road. Ensure you keep a reasonable distance if you want to get some close-up seal shots, as they are not as lazy as they seem.
Cape Palliser can be found at the end of Cape Palliser Road, at the southeast end of the North Island.
