Exploring Pelorus Bridge Tōtara Walk
Pelorus Bridge Tōtara Walk is an attractive short loop track located just off State Highway 6, near the main car park at Pelorus Bridge. This walk takes you through a remarkable remnant forest featuring large native trees, including a notable ancient tōtara. Along the way, you can explore sidetracks that lead down to the river and the scenic Tōtara Flat picnic area.
Discovering the Circle Loop Track
To extend your walk, the Circle Loop Track is accessible on the opposite side of the river. To reach it, cross the historic Pelorus Bridge on the main highway and follow the path to a swing bridge. This additional track offers a different perspective on the forest and the river and is part of Te Araroa.
How to get there
Pelorus Bridge is a 1-hour, 62 km drive from Nelson and 50 50-minute, 66 km drive from Blenheim. The main car park at Pelorus Bridge is situated directly off State Highway 6. From there, cross the highway, and the track is immediately accessible.
Other walks at Pelorous Bridge include the Tawa Walk, Elvy Waterfalls Track, and the Trig K Track. There is also a DOC campsite.
