Ohinetonga Reserve

Heading South from Taumarunui on State Highway 4, you will drive into the hamlet of Owhango. Take the signposted roads into the Ohinetonga Reserve and drive down the parking area next to the Whakapapa River. This is a pretty stop and short walk location, plus a good place to spot rare whio, native blue ducks.

You can walk along the river a bit, and a short loop track goes through the forest. You will most likely see the ducks amongst the rapids south of the bridge.

The bridge provides access to remote hiking and mountain bike tracks, including the 42 Traverse Track.
