Lake Hāwea Lookout

There are various safe stopping points for photos of Lake Hāwea as you drive down State Highway 6 towards Makarora. But the best one is Lake Hāwea Lookout, signposted with plenty of safe parking, about halfway along the lake. The view is from a high point on the road and is spectacular at any time of the year.

On the far side of the lake from the viewpoint, the high point is Corner Peak, which the lake goes around to branch further north. At the south end of the eastside range is Breast Hill, which is reached on Te Araroa.
