The Kaikōura Peninsula Walkway starts at the South Bay Reserve, where the road ends. Several excellent panels describe the area. It follows the edge of the rock platforms, heads up to the top of the cliff at the end of the peninsula, and then around to the road end to the peninsula's north side.
Along the way, there is a seal colony, an enormous protected seabird nursery, and the sun-bleached rocky platform uplifted by the Kaikōura earthquake of 2016. Allow up to a couple of hours to go the whole way.
