The Arataki Visitor Centre is about 7 km along the Scenic Drive from Titirangi. It has a large parking area, including room for camper vans, and a fabulous visitor centre that covers the region's history and provides information on the many outdoor activities around the Waitakere Ranges. A short walk to the right of the visitor centre leads to a viewing platform that provides 270-degree views over the range to the southwest and coast and around to the north. Try and be there at sunset!
It is also the starting point for a couple of longer, mostly forest walks. If it eventually fully reopens, it will be the starting point for the multi-day Hillary Trail that goes southwest to Whatipu and then north to Te Henga Bethells Beach.
